My Response to Anti-Trans Executive Orders
In response to the executive order signed on January 28th, 2025 entitled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) has released the following statement:
WPATH STATEMENT REGARDING EXECUTIVE ORDER “PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM CHEMICAL AND SURGICAL MUTILATION”
January 28, 2025
We are disappointed with this latest executive order. Policies that restrict or ban access to necessary medical care for transgender youth are harmful to patients and their families. Transgender youth need comprehensive, individualized, family-based care from multidisciplinary teams. Healthcare decisions should be made by patients, families, and their healthcare professionals, guided by evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and individual needs rather than government mandates.

As a WPATH member and gender affirming care provider, I condemn the incendiary language of the executive order and its lack of evidentiary support, and I affirm my commitment to continuing to provide affirming care.
The language of this order is extremely concerning and can be activating. If it is helpful to you, I have outlined possible support resources below:
- TransLifeline: Hotline with options if you can’t get through.
- THRIVE Lifeline: A text line for underrepresented individuals (BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, disabled, neurodivergent, etc.). It also has a Discord server for peers.
- Call Blackline: A peer-support hotline by and for Black, Black TLGBTQI+, Brown, Native, and Muslim communities.
- MHA SF Warmline: The Warm Line provides accessible mental health support by using the wisdom of lived experience to connect, inspire hope, and empower our community toward unlimited recovery.
My thoughts and continued support remain with my communities.
In solidarity,
Theo
